VETTINGS

When buying a horse, many buyers ask for an equine pre-purchase examination or vetting. This serves to identify any pre-existing problems whhich may hinder a horses future performance and reduce buyer risk.
Jane King is our vet dedicated to most equine work and is assigned to 2 and 5 stage veterinary examinations.

The 2 stage vetting, recommended for a childs pony or companion, costing £65.73 including VAT, and consists of :
    - Clinical examination
    - Trot up/flexion tests
    - Check eyes
    - Check heart

The 5 stage vetting is a more thorough examination and is often required for insurance purposes. The cost of  a 5 stage vetting is £202.24 including VAT. The vetting normally takes 1.5 - 2 hours and includes :

    - Clinical examination
    - listen to heart
    - Check eyes
    - Check mouth (tell age)
    - Feel legs
    - Check for arthritis
    - Check lumps and bumps
    - See ridden (check heart rate)
    - Draw
    - Blood test
    - Trot up again

We are not able to provide pre-purchase examinations to our own clients, due to potential conflict of interest. However, neighbouring horses registered with other local practices are eligible to be examined by Jane.

When arranging /booking vettings, we require a £80 deposit from the client to hold the appointment with the vet. For more information and or booking vettings, please call either the Kendal or Kirkby surgery.
